Following a gluten-free diet is the only way to treat Celiac Disease and gluten intolerance. Many people are also using this diet for other health reasons as they see a difference in well being when removing gluten from their diet. In the case of Celiac Disease and gluten intolerance the proteins found in gluten; gliadin and glutenin are not digestible and can cause a variety of different physical conditions.
In order to follow a gluten-free diet you have to ensure that you avoid all foods containing wheat, barley, rye and triticale. Become an educated label reader and seek out information online and in books as to foods that may contain hidden sources of gluten. Many foods contain fillers and binders that are made with some form of the above noted grains. Food labeling laws do not impose regulations to have these noted.
Remember that the essentials to healthy eating are permitted on a gluten-free diet so there is no need to panic about what you will be missing out on. With the rise in the gluten-free diet foods marketplace, more and more products are being found on grocery shop shelves.

GREAT info! Thanks for sharing. Especially the part about supplements and meds! I had no idea.
Yes, one of the benefits of having a diagnosis is that when you go for medical treatment it will be flagged and doctors will pay attention to that when prescribing. You will notice with some supplements however that they may say, wheat, yeast, egg and sugar free.
Rebecca,
Great Slideshow. I had NO idea. I wonder if my USANA supplements have gluten. I’ll have to take a close look and their content.
Thanks for helping me be more informed!

I am pretty sure, I have heard that USANA is gluten-free but would glad to hear back from you 100%

Looks like between the two blogs (safe healthy diet) and mine, we can deliver a lot of good info.
Thanks for this slide show and info. For the most part I have cut out all of these foods but I didn’t know about the beef broth.
It is all about reading the labels and being informed a little beyond that. Best case scenario is to make these broths from scratch.
