As the demand for gluten-free foods grow in grocery stores as well as in the food service industry, food companies are looking for ways to respond. The natural foods company, Smart Balance that already was strong in the spreads and then added Glutino to its holdings has recently acquired Udi’s Healthy Foods to set itself up as one of the leaders in the gluten-free food products niche. They now have a large selection of gluten-free breads, snacks and spreads.

The newly acquired Udi’s Healthy Foods complements Smart Balance’s Glutino brand. Glutino, which was acquired in 2011, heads Smart balance’s gluten free product offerings.

Udi’s has a lock on the gluten free bread and baked goods market. Glutino, when acquired by Smart Balance, was a market leader in the snacks and grocery segment of gluten free products.
